DIRECTV STREAM HALLOWEEN CAMPAIGN - 2020
In Fall 2020 we had the opportunity to lead the inter-agency creative for DirecTV Stream’s Halloween Campaign. Fresh off the Serena Williams launch campaign the clients were looking for something funny, irreverent and current.
My writing partner Meghan and I are big “What We Do In The Shadows” fans and love the style of that production so we knew that would play into this work somehow.
Our favourite idea was one we called “Bats” with the joke being a mixup between baseball bats and halloween bat decorations. We reverse engineered that idea into a line “I thought we agreed the theme was BATS?” and built a scenario where we have a straight man baseball player living with an intense and possibly homicidal vampire. Their relationship is complicated but they make it work.
Our second spot came from the idea of mixing up “Scream” and “Stream” with a football player and a witch. We developed that into a second idea called “Pigskin” and we were off to the races.
